Student Support during your studies
Our student support services offer advice and information to help students with their academic, personal and social life at the university.
You will find student life new and exciting, but you may also find that being away from home and in a foreign country it can be sometimes bewildering at first. At Inverness College UHI we aim to provide you with access to all the help and advice you might need in order to settle into college life.
Studies Adviser
All UHI students are assigned a studies adviser when they enrol. Your Studies Adviser will monitor your academic progress and will often be your first point of contact if you encounter any difficulties: academic or personal.
SkillZone
Located in the Learning Centre at Longman Campus SkillZone is a drop-in centre where you can access support to develop some of the essential skills: employability, enterprise, communications, IT, numeracy, and others. You will receive certification and the time you spent enhancing your skills will be credited towards your course hours.
Social and Activity Programme
Our Social and Activity Programme offers social events throughout the academic year to give students the opportunity to experience Scottish traditions, visit its heritage sites and tourist attractions and make new friends.
Mentoring scheme
The mentoring scheme plugs you into the student community straight after you arrive. Volunteer mentors are current college students who have a wealth of information about college life and study and are willing to share it with ‘freshmen’. You can connect with your mentor before coming over or just after you arrive in Inverness.
Visa and immigration advice
Our International Student Advisers are professionally trained to provide advice on visa and immigration matters. They will support you with confidential advice and information whenever required.
Looking after your health
The National Health Service (NHS) provides full medical services for college students. There are a number of health centres in the city and you can choose the most conveniently located one: either near the college or close to your accommodation.
Counselling
The college provides free and confidential counselling services for students who have personal, social, emotional and educational concerns which they would like to discuss with a professional counsellor.
