We realise that one of the factors that is important to you when considering the cost of studying overseas is the advantage it will give you in getting a job while studying and after you have completed your degree.

At Inverness College UHI we will help you develop your employability skills by providing opportunities for hands-on learning and work placements. We also offer career workshops giving you guidance, information and support to find your place in the job market.

Relevant curriculum

Employability is central to the delivery of our courses; the curriculum is designed in consultation with employers, so you are prepared for work when you leave the college. Every course, whether it is a degree in engineering or social sciences will have modules which cover business skills and competences.

Create

CREATE is the Highland Centre for Enterprise and Innovation. It offers free services to all our students who wish to develop enterprising skills to be better prepared for employment or to start their own business.  From a wide range of workshops through to providing excellent networking opportunities at the Entrepreneurs Club this award-winning centre inspires students and gives them tools for unlocking their entrepreneurial potential.

Sandwich Courses

A sandwich course is a four year undergraduate degree in which students undertake a placement year in industry. The placement is paid and it is usually taken in the second or a third year of study. It is design to be a part of the course and aims to provide the opportunity to contextualise learning and develop a good understanding of business environment in the context of specific subject areas. At Inverness College UHI we offer sandwich courses in our Forestry course portfolio.

Work placements

Many of our courses have an imbedded work-based project for which you will receive academic credits for. Work placements are an excellent opportunity for gaining an experience in the work place as well as they will help you building up your networks to support your job search efforts in the future. Some of the industry placements are offered on a competitive basis – you will be offered support during the application process, from CV and application form to interview preparation.

As an Inverness College student you will also be eligible to apply for a Summer Placement Scheme as part of Talent Scotland initiative.

Career Services

Inverness College UHI are holding free workshops throughout the year to provide you with the tools to search, find and work in the UK. The workshops are designed to be both informal and interactive. You will be interacting with fellow students and after each workshop you will be provided with a "Toolkit" which contains lots of useful information, helping you in finding job during your studies and deciding what to do after you graduate.
As an Inverness College student you will also have access to one-to-one career coaching and a wealth of resources from the UHI Career Centre.
